The Sierra Club is hiring!
“The Sierra Club is America’s oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization. Inspired by nature, we are 1.3 million of your friends and neighbors, working together to protect our communities and the planet.”
The Sierra Club has posted two new positions in Wisconsin. A Beyond Coal Campaing Field Organizer and a Field Organizing Manager. We were curious what it would be like to work for this large, storied nonprofit and spent some time digging around on the website.
First of all, the benefits are pretty amazing. Health insurance, vision and dental are all available to employees working more than 20 hours/week. Also available- group life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, flex accounts, 401K and a retirement plan.
PTO? 2 weeks for the first two years (not fantastic, but not terrible). It does get better from there, maxing out at 5 weeks. They also have a credit union. All in all, it seems like a pretty attractive package.
The Sierra Club recently hired a new Executive Director, Michael Brune, who wrote about his first day on the job, March 15, 2010, for the Huffington Post. Worth a read to get a feel for their culture.
